The Skywalkers: A Mystery Thriller of Lost Technology and Forbidden Knowledge (A Rossler Foundation Mystery Book 5) Kindle Edition
A 50,000-year-old warning. A deadly conspiracy. The fate of humanity at risk.
When Daniel Rossler uncovers an ancient letter—written over 50,000 years ago—it warns of unseen messengers of death that walk the sky and the awakening of a monstrous force. At the same time, the Rossler Foundation's most advanced data system detects a disturbing rise in global instability, pointing to an impending disaster no one can explain.
As Rossler and his team investigate, they uncover shocking evidence of an advanced prehistoric civilisation—one that may have harnessed technology far beyond what the modern world believes possible. Their journey takes them to a remote and treacherous landscape, where hidden truths lie buried alongside ancient ruins. But they’re not the only ones searching.
Eligo Rarus, a shadowy organisation of the world’s most powerful elites, has its own plans—plans that could reshape society forever. As ancient warnings and modern conspiracies converge, Daniel and his team must race against time to stop a cataclysmic event that could rewrite history and end the future.
The Skywalkers is the fifth pulse-pounding installment in JC Ryan’s acclaimed Rossler Foundation Mystery series, where the mysteries of the past clash with the threats of the present in a relentless battle for humanity’s future

Jerry Amazon Reviewer- Rossler Foundation just keeps getting better. JC Ryan builds a rich story that touches on issues relating to the dangers of the drug of power in a way that does not take away from the story. A great read as all his books to date have been.
OldArcher Amazon Reviewer - Great writing for those who appreciate fun, thought provoking, speculative, fiction... I'm writing this for all the books of the Rossler Foundation Series...
Superbly written, plausible, captivating, and readers will be crying out for "More!!!" Clancy was the last "thriller"writer that held my attention. J.C. Ryan has brought back the fun of that genre for me. His characterizations, dialog, and plot lines are fun to read, and sav or,as one would a gourmet cup of coffee, laced with Grand Marnier, or sipping Jameson's Irish Whiskey... It's been a long time since I've read a great series that is as much fun that isn't science fiction, of, and by, itself... Perhaps Mr. Ryan should use the same definition for his work, as Heinlein did for some of his- "speculative fiction..."
Regardless of how you slice it, J. C. Ryan is a wonderful writer and storyteller.
Meghan Top Amazon Reviewer - Another white-knuckle suspenseful read. Whenever I read a JC Ryan book, I keep thinking about the visuals--how would this scene or so look in HD or even 3D. Sure, the budget would run to a hundred million dollars, but from the 10th Cycle to The Skywalkers, it would be all worth it.
Having said that, the release of JC Ryan's latest book, The Skywalkers, was met with a great amount of anticipation. I was not disappointed, because right at the get go, the mere mention of the Prophet got my juices flowing--it's not long before I lost track of time reading and stopping my heart from lurching for the sake of the Rossler Foundation's team. There's quite an intense amount of fun and the integrated verisimilitude made even the book's most astounding technology feel as real as the smartphone you're holding.
Moreover, the Skywalkers' ending presents a cliffhanger that leaves your jaws dropped on the floor, and it could either be good or bad: it would be GOOD if the next JC Ryan book that follows this is released as soon as possible, like TODAY; bad if the sequel takes several months to arrive and the excitement created by The Skywalkers' ending dissipates and deteriorates into frustration. I'm not a huge fan of cliffhangers, but I don't really dislike them, either: it's one of those literary devices than can add more fun in the whole reading experience. But in the long run--in the future when readers could buy a boxed set of JC Ryan's Rossler Foundation books, which might include The Skywalkers and its immediate sequel--then the said ending wouldn't bother us and would even feel like just the right ingredient stirred into the pot at the exact crucial moment.
The Skywalkers is an enjoyable book--it continues the Rossler Foundation's uncanny ability to invite us to wonder about those mysterious unanswered questions and could-have-beens, but it also never loses its action-yand edge-of-your-seat thrill. There's never a boring moment reading this--it took me a day to finish the book, and that was because I tried prolonging the reading experience by dwelling in certain chapters--such as the implications mentioned in Chapter 6--and when I finally finished reading, it took me a few moments to ponder the fact that I'm facing what may be a few months before the next JC Ryan book. But then again, I could just reread the previous books to relive the experience. Fans of well-crafted techno-thrillers must get a copy.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2015I have been reading science fiction, fantasy, and detective/mystery series for some years. Basically since I was 10 years old and rode my bike to our town library three or more times a week. In all of these genres I liked the kind of series where each book was a stand alone offering complete within itself but adding to a richness of acquaintance with the reoccurring characters.
In the previous four books of the Rossler Foundation series I felt there was a good sense of this ongoing enrichment....even in the one book that was a far darker storyline than I usually choose to wade through.
I can not, unfortunately, say that about this fifth installment. Basically because it felt so much like a rushed installment instead of a fully developed stand alone novel. Mr Ryan is very talented in building likeable and multidimensional characters but this time out his characters did not display the depth I have come to expect from their characters. In fact, Daniel was driving me crazy with his moronic level of nativity long before Mr Ryan ever got around to his plot twist revelation of his misplaced trust. These people had just been through a major crisis of betrayal with dire consequences in Book 4. Book 5 starts out with a plot device designed to show off an extrapolative security system supposedly born out of the lessons in betrayal from Book 4....but there's Daniel spilling every detail of their operations without a blink or pause to wonder if he should be so trusting. Here's a supposedly very smart man just blithely skipping through these major revelations like a five year old talking to a man offering him a wand of cotton candy! It was a total miss on an entire sub-plot of examining the human spirit consequences inherent from such a far-reaching betrayal they almost didn't survive. All of the characterizations seemed to gloss over normal soul-searching but Daniel's was almost criminal in his unthinking nativity. Even if Mr Ryan did not want to write that kind of fully developed sub-plot he needed to at least give Daniel some evaluative inner dialogue showing a conscious decision to trust being made in stead of just leaving him with so much egg on his face again when the betrayal is revealed to the reader!
One of the reasons I have been reading my way through this series was the satisfying balance between the speculative plot lines and his engaging character development.
But even with the speculative plot line in this book there seems to be a sense of hurry....not urgency....a rush to get the book born. Another missed sub-plot opportunity left us looking for the most part at a series of empty rooms....which might be "reasonable" enough after 50,000 years except for the "historical" plot devise of the audio file leaves used to activate and deactivate the Beast. There was one "letter" from this ancient past...how much more could have been borne out of a few more human stories leaking through this device to intersect with the human reactions in the Rossler characters. What a mine of rich potentials was totally left still-born.
And don't wink knowingly and tell me to simply wait to learn about those kinds of revelations in Book 6, because that just leads me to my last complaint about the rushed feeling of Book 5! I absolutely hate cliff-hanger endings in books that are part of a series. By the 5th book in a series I am obviously committed to reading the series. Building an entire sub-plot line throughout the entire book only to take it to a crisis point and leaving me hanging with an obvious teaser for Book 6 is a cheap ploy I believe unworthy of a writer as talented as Mr Ryan! I truly believe each and every book in a series should be a whole and completely realized plot. Sometimes that means a book gets to be four inches thick....but I'm a READER....I can handle 4 inches of richness full of multidimensional characters and plot twists. Give me the substance of your talents as a writer, Mr Ryan, not a marketing strategy to churn out something with your name on it every two months. The Rossler Foundation series has a broad spectrum of intrigue, human relationships, and speculation available in its premises....give us meat to chew on when you next invite us to your literary feast and I'll gladly come back for Book 7, & 8, &.....
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2024This book delivers suspense with the take over of the world. Again the Rossler Foundation is the cutting edge only to lose this round and go to ground. Great read. Big D
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2015Enjoyed the latest book. I like that the books don't follow a formula but the threat and situations are new time- terrorists, global pandemics, nanobots. I do wish the good guys would stop allowing all these moles into their confidence. And they should get ahead of the curve just enough with their new finds that they could protect their stuff better, and maybe have to be less reliant on these wacko benefactors.
Glad they finally built a safe house- it's about time. Portrayal of world politics is accurate- definitely could happen, and yes, the promise of the Information Age is lacking, shallow, and often subversive instead. It has enabled us to form relationships both fraudulent and shallow, with little intimacy. We will soon pay the piper.
The book ended with a bit of a cliffhanger- can't wait to see what happens next. Would be nice to see the Rosslers come out on top for a change.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Skywalkers
This book, The Skywalkers continues the Rossler Foundation series - it is the 5th book of this series by JC Ryan I have read and enjoyed it every bit as much as the previous books. This one is excellent - all the old names and faces are there - they are like family now!
This time they find themselves in serious trouble yet again, but the problem is they don't have anyone to turn to - they have to resolve it all by themselves.
I just love this series. When is that next one coming out JC?

5.0 out of 5 stars Cant wait for the next one
Book was really good, really great flow. I enjoy following the Rosslers on their quests. My only criticism would be that their relationships are a little too perfect. While I love all the characters sometimes I would like it to be a little more real when it comes to a decision that they make with each other. Other than that the book is so intriguing that I did not want to put it down. It really brings light to how much our society relies on technology. We have so many people in the world and everyone has Cell phones, but instead of using them to talk to one another we text or Facebook. Anyways, great series I always look forward to another book. I will keep supporting and reading your books, please JC keep writing!
